2010 HOPE Day On at

Virgil Middle School

 

Over 900 participants gathered this past Saturday at Virgil Middle School, our Latino sector's worship facility to do extensive renovation and beautification.  Many of the volunteers were able to take advantage of the "Give a Day, Get a Day" program that Disney is offering this year-- receiving a free Disneyland ticket for their day of service to the community.  Hundreds of our members partnered with faculty and parents from the Virgil school and we were also able to host a group from the UCLA Pathways program.  Pathways is a 2 year enrichment program for young  adults with intellectual disabilities.  Members learn life skills through training and service.  We were all delighted by our teen group's tribute to Disney using their singing, acting and dancing skills. An incredible taco lunch was provided by our gracious hosts at Virgil.  The heart of the day, however,  was lots of hard work-- landscaping, painting and cleaning.  The San Gabriel Valley sector is blessed with Raina Ramirez and Amber Plummer-- gifted artists who designed and painted two awesome murals for the children their families to enjoy for years to come.  Check back here for more pictures in the next week.  God was glorified through all of our efforts to serve.  Thanks so much to everyone who participated!

  TENDER YEARS CLASS

                                 FOR MOMS

We have had so many new babies in the past year-  a population explosion!

We will be offering a special class for any of our moms with kids under 6 years old.  The text for the class will be "The Tender Years" a new book by Geri & Elizabeth Laing.  Our class will be taught by Yvonne Lim & Jackie Nakaishi.  Fei Tan and other experienced moms will also be lending support. Our first class is at the Women's Midweek on Feb 17th.
